Are You Taking a Prescription Drug Containing Statins?

Statin drugsStatins, as with most drugs have the possibility of side effects. It is important for the individual taking these drugs to have all the information possible in order to understand the risks involved.

From the UCSD Statin Study ( University of California, San Diego – a public research university)

Well Known Statin Side Effects:

Their symptoms are comparable to that of Alzheimer’s. Many report improvement in memory and thinking when they stop using the drug, or even if they go on a lower dosage.

  • Although muscle pain is a well know side effect, there are also other types of pain such as headaches, joint pains and abdominal pain.
  • Studies have confirmed that Peripheral Neuropathy (tingling, burning or numbness) may occur with statins. Some researchers estimate that 1 in 10 who take statin drugs will experience a mild form of neuropathy with symptoms that may include, tiredness, difficulty getting in or out of a chair or bed, shortness of breath or difficulty walking.
  • There are a variety of other symptoms that been reported – sleep problems, dizziness, sexual function problems, swelling, vision changes, weight change, nausea, dry skin, or rashes.
